Want to capture unique and stunning photos of the Arizona slot canyons? Then join professional photographer Ron Niebrugge for this adventurous 3 day slot canyon photo tour. We will be hitting all of the Page, Arizona area hot spots in just a few action packed days! Explore and photograph Canyon X, Surprise Canyon, Lower Antelope Canyon and spend a special evening of night photography in the famous Upper Antelope Canyon! Not to mention other great photo locations like Horseshoe Bend and Lake Powell viewpoints.
I will be limiting the group size to just 5 plus myself, allowing for a more intimate experience despite being part of a group. At times I will be shooting alongside you so I am calling this a photo tour, although I anticipate plenty of teaching opportunities each day.
This photo tour will be based out of Page, Arizona. Page is approximately a 5 hour drive from Las Vegas, 5.5 hours from Phoenix, and 6 hours from Salt Lake City. Additional information on hotels, travel and gear suggestions will follow once you have signed up for the trip.
- Thursday night - We will meet for a welcome dinner at a nice Page area restaurant, likely the floating restaurant at Antelope Point. Dinner is included in the tour.
- Friday - We will visit Canyon X where we will have this beautiful canyon all to ourselves. This rare experience of having a slot canyon to ourselves provides for a perfect teaching situation as I will be able to cover a lot of techniques that will be valuable over the days to come. After a morning of photography we will take a break for a sack lunch, which is included in the tour.
Depending on weather conditions sunset will be spent at Horseshoe Bend overlooking the Colorado River or a Lake Powell Overlook.
- Saturday - Our day will begin with an adventurous ride in a Hummer to Surprise Canyon. Aside from a single group of hikers possibly passing through, we will again have this stunning canyon to ourselves. Just you, and what are now 5 good friends makes it much easier to work in such narrow, but inspiring confines.
This evening will possibly be the highlight of the trip. I have arranged for us to be escorted by a Navajo Indian guide into the world famous Upper Antelope Canyon to photograph the stars through the narrow slot openings. Our guide will provide LED lighting for the interior space and the moonless night will be perfect for including the stars above.
I have done a lot of slot canyon photography, and plenty of night photography but this will be my first time combining the two. Not to worry, we will be accompanied by the gentleman who pioneered the technique.
- Sunday - We will skip sunrise due to the late evening, but on this day we will visit the breathtaking Lower Antelope Canyon. We will be our own group in this canyon on a photographer pass allowing us to spend more time in the canyon than the regular tours. But we will be sharing the slot with groups of sightseers passing through. The extra people are a small price to pay to visit one of my favorite slot canyons. The tour will wrap up after this slot allowing enough time for most people to travel home.
$1,295.00 per person.
**If you will be selling your pictures you must obtain a permit through the Navajo Nation. This is an additional $50.00. We will assist you with the permitting process.**

SKILL LEVEL AND PHYSICAL FITNESS
Anyone with average mobility and fitness level should have no problem on this tour. Most of the slot canyons are no more than a quarter mile in length, and require about the same distance of walking to reach them. Canyon X does require a steep climb down and up on a section of trail with plenty of foot and hand holds. I can also help carry any gear up and down this stretch. See the photo below. Lower Antelope Slot includes a number of steep staircase like ladders along with a few slightly awkward narrows. Again see below for an image of one of the stair/ladders. Horseshoe Bend requires roughly a 1.5 mile hike round trip through some soft sand.
